Barun Sobti is looking forward to his first Bollywood release, Main Aur Mr. Right. Unlike most other actors, this hunk was not into acting from a young age. In fact he worked at Jindal Telecom as an operations manager for seven long years.
He debuted on the small screen as Swayam Khurana on Star Plus on the daily soap, Shraddha opposite Neha Janpandit, although the sudden signing off of the family oriented show was quite unanticipated.
Barun Sobti was then offered the lead on Keshav Pandit which is produced by Balaji Telefilms. He had a small, negative role on Dill Mill Gayye as Dr. Yuvraaj Singh. Eventually he quit the show as he was offered the lead role on Sony TV’s Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. He played the character of Shravan Jaiswal opposite Ankita Sharma. They also appeared on Sony TV’s dance reality show, Boogie Woogie together for the promotion of the show.
Later Barun Sobti could be seen playing the role of a male protagonist in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon aired on Star Plus. He played the role of a famous business tycoon, Arnav Singh Raizada opposite Sanaya Irani. The show was very popular and was a favourite among the viewers. Arnav’s character on the show was that of a dispassionate, rude businessman until he came across his soulmate, Khushi Kumari Gupta (Sanaya Irani). The duo was seen sharing a love-hate relationship on the show.
For health and personal reasons Barun Sobti had to exit the show the consequences of which were devastating. The show which first went on air on 6th June, 2011 was shut down on 30th November, 2012 and the producers announced it publicly that the reason behind the show shutting down was Barun Sobti’s sudden exit.
In spite of all this, his acting and the on screen chemistry with his co-actor, Sanaya Irani, was able to draw a lot of attention and he gained unequalled fame and astounding success. His performance on the show won him various awards, esteem among the critics and has made him a household name.
Often accredited as ‘The Golden Boy of Indian Television’, Barun Sobti has been seen hosting the Star Parivar Awards, 2011 and performing in the Star Parivar Live Event, 2012 in Birmingham, UK. He has also been interviewed by Noreen Khan from the BBC in March, 2012.
Sobti has finished shooting for his first Bollywood film, Main Aur Mr. Riight which is due to release in June, 2013. He has also landed himself another movie to be directed by Mitali Ghoshal, named 22 Yards, revolving around the conspiracies of the cricket world. He is all set to begin shooting in April. Recently, the actor got a nomination in the Best TV Actor Category for his role in the show Baat Hamari Pakki Hain at the Apsara Awards.
Born on 21st August, 1984 to a Sikh Punjabi family in Delhi, the television actor and model is the only one to have won four Star Parivar Awards namely ‘The Favourite Naya Sadasya (male)’, ‘The Most Stylish Sadasya (male)’, ‘The Favourite Onscreen Jodi (shared with Sanaya Irani)’ and ‘The Favourite International Jodi (with Sanaya Irani’) for his role in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. He also won the Indian Television Academy award in the Best Popular Actor category for the same. A Leo by birth, Sobti completed his schooling from St. Mark’s School, Meera Bagh and also graduated from a college in Delhi. This five feet eleven inches handsome man married his childhood love, Pasmeen Manchanda on 12th December, 2010 very privately at a gurudwara. According to the sources he kept it so short that he took only a day off from his shooting.
His favorite actor is Amir Khan, actress, Sonali Behndre and movies, Andaaz Apna Appna and Don’t Mess With The Zohan. His favorite car is the Ford Mustang and he loves to holiday in Australia. In his leisure time, he spends time with his family watching sports reality shows and comedy shows like Khichdi and goes to parties with his friends. Unlike others, Barun is not on any social networking site but plans to be on one soon.
