Gurmeet is the son of  retired army Subedar Major Sitaram Choudhary. He is originally from the Bhagalpur district of Bihar. While serving in the army , he had to travel all over India in places such as Channdigarh, Chennai and Jabalpur.
Gurmeet’s mother is Anmol Choudhary who is a homemaker and proud mother of the martial art loving celebrity son.

Gurmeet Choudhary has one older brother, Gangaram who is a doctor. The two brothers are close even though they are busy with their own lives.

Gurmeet Choudhary met his then future wife, Debina Bonnerjee for the first time professionally whilst shooting for the TV serial Ramayana.

Fate played a part in them getting closer; Gurmeet’s friend’s girlfriend was sharing PG digs with Debina. So, whenever, Gurmeet went along with his friend to meet the girlfriend, Debina and he were thrown together. They began as friends and when one day, Gurmeet realised that he missed her when they couldn’t meet and that he was in love. In fact, due to his shy nature, Debina had to almost lead him to proposing to her!

Television hearthrob and Mr.Nice Guy Gurmeet Choudhary is a shy Piscean born on the 22nd of February, in Chandigarh. This Bihari boy was brought up in various army cantonments around India including Chennai and completed his studies in Jabalpur.

In his early years, Gurmeet became a model and tried for nearly five to get a break into the television and film industry. In 2006, he finally made his debut on the small screen with Indian TVs first 3D TV series Mayavi. It was a Tamil language TV serial where he played a negative character; the success of the series led to it being dubbed in Telugu and Malayalam, too.

His debut in the Hindi language TV industry happened because Prem Sagar was so impressed by Gurmeet’s modest and humble nature that he immediately signed him up for their forthcoming TV serial Ramayana in the title role of Lord Rama. The success of this series as well as his own was augmented by the appreciation he received from his increasing fans base  of his next TV ventures, STAR Ones Geet-Hui Sabse Parayi, and Zee TVs Punar Vivah.

After winning the ColorsTVs dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 5, he is looking forward to lead roles in Bollywood.
