After finishing her schooling at Foundation Public School, Karachi, Mahira Khan completed her higher education from Santa Monica Community College, Los Angeles. She had stated in an interview that after her schooling she had this irresistible craving to move abroad and lead her life on her own principles. She chuckles as she remembers taking up miscellaneous jobs throughout her high school and college life to whip out pocket money, her first being a cashier at Rite Aid.
Mahira met Ali Askari at LA itself and the couple tied the knot on 13th of July, 2007. She accredits her husband as being the man who ushered her in front of the camera.
Mahira kicked off her career as a video jockey at a tender age of sixteen. It all happened when she was to meet Ali that she bumped into Ghazanfar Ali, a producer in Pakistan. She was seen hosting MTV Pakistan’s live show, Most Wanted thrice weekly. Eventually she quit to join Aag, the channel for the youth by Geo TV who offered her to be a participant in Pakistan Idol. She was then seen hosting Weekends with Mahira on Aag TV.
Next, Mahira played the role of Aaila in Mehreen Jabbar’s Neeyat aired on ARY Digital. She debuted in the film industry in Shamoon Abbasi’s Bol, directed by Shoaib Mansoor, along with Atif Aslam, Iman Ali and Humaima Malik in the year 2011. She portrayed her character well and the film got positive critical reviews. She next signed up with Momina Duraid, head of Hum TV productions to present the character of Khirad Ehsan, in Humsafar, the television serial drama inspired from Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel and directed by Sarmad Khoosat. Later on Mahira was seen as an anchor at the Hum Awards and was declared the ‘Best Actress’ for her role in Shehr- e- Zaat and ‘Best on Screen Couple’ jointly with her co actor for Humsafar. Although she bagged an award for her performance in the drama, Shehr- e- Zaat, it failed to reach the heights of fame like Humsafar.
