It is generally difficult to make a mark in the movie industry without having any ancestral traits in the world. However, as of the present day, we find many talented young individuals with no history of acting in their family making it to the big screen. What people generally do is go for a transition into movies after a successful career in a related field, say acting on the small screen or video-jockeys or show hosts etc. A fine example of such a tale would be Mahira Khan.
She was born and brought up in the district of Karachi. She received her formal education from Foundation Public School, Karachi, one of the very prominent schools in the area. From there, she pursued her higher education abroad at the Santa Monica Community College, Los Angeles.
She started her career as a video jockey on the small screen at the age of sixteen. Though she always had her sights on the big screen, she patiently waited for her opportunity. She started getting offers and bagging roles in the various TV serials.
When she returned from Los Angeles after completing her education, she was still keen to follow her video-jockeying career and so she did. In fact, she even took up a number of roles in local television serials namely, Neeyat, Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat. Neeyat was her debut in the world of television drama and she knew that though she had loads of experience being a VJ, this was entirely new territory. She did a good job and was praised by the critics. The audience loved her, and seeing as this was the first time they were seeing her play a character on the big screen, that was good news. She did absolute justice to her role and without a doubt her character Aaila was a big rage among the fans. With the newly found success and therefore confidence in her first endeavor, she was encouraged to do many more serials and she did – Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat. In the year 2011, she won the Hum Awards for Best on Screen Couple for her role in Humsafar. In the following year too, she was nominated for her role in Shehr-e-Zaat and she bagged the award for Best Actress there. As of the present Hum Awards 2013, she was invited to host the show. Her role of Falak in Shehr-e-Zaat was one of the most popular characters in the TV world and the serial was one of the most widely known and talked about dramas in Pakistan.
Mahira Khan made her debut in the movie world as Ayesha in Bol alongside Atif Aslam, Humaima Mallick and Iman Ali. The film did really well, gained good reviews and along with that, her performance was praised. This was a huge moment for her, considering she was showcasing her talent alongside the likes of renowned personalities like Atif Aslam and Iman Ali.
