Kolomlika Basu!! As soon as one reads or listens to this name, a sound of “naeka” reverberates in his or her mind. Such is the impact of Urvashi Dholakia’s character in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. This iconic role was played by Urvashi who, by then had only done sweet girl next door acts. The role had changed everyone’s perception of her and Urvashi dholakia did absolute justice to her role of Komolika which was the biggest turning point for the Gujrati girl. Not only her role but her garish make-up, highly embellished loud sarees, heavy jewelry and the trademark lock of hair, which she kept twirling all became a rage. That was the era where all television soaps were only concentrating on the adversarial relationship between the ethical protagonist and the sinister antagonist both of which happened to belong to the feminine gender.

Kasautii Zindagi Kay was a soap opera under Balaji Telefilms which aired on star plus from 2001 to 2008. The show received a lot of adulation and very high TRP, one of the major reasons for the show’s success was Urvashi’s enactment of the unforgettable, Komolika Basu. The show was a love story starring Cezanne Khan and Shweta Tiwari, where Urvashi was the catalyst. The names of the protagonists were Anurag and Prerna and the show revolved around their eternal love. Komolika was adamant to marry Anurag to inherit his wealth; this hampered Anurag and Prerna from being together and thus began their tragic love story. Urvashi Dholakia gave a new definition to the vamps; one may also call her the anti-heroine of the show.
